Show Season 2011
2011 show season started very slowly after all the rain and it was difficult to present cattle at their best soon after the floods however we started our year at Proston and came away with Junior Champion European bull with Midas E078 and then Junior Champion F emale with URDiamond Fancy owned in conjunction with Glenn Perrett and Ken and Julie Thompson. As we did not have a senior bull it was up to the females to do the job. Ebony Lodge Sheraton owned in partnership with the same people took Senior and Grand Champion European cow with Midas Opal E009 taking Reserve Senior Cow. Fancy took Reserve Champion European Female behind her mother Sheraton. In the Interbreed Sheraton took 3rd with Fancy 4th.
The next show was Murgon and we came away with a mixed result as judging followed a similar pattern all day. We took 1st place in a number of classes but did not succeed to any champions. The Nanango Show was similar again as it was difficult to break the dominance of a particular breed however Midas Opal E009 stood out.
The next show was not until May and it was in Biggenden where I had taken Supreme Exhibit the last 2 years. As the Gympie Show was that week I split the team and some stayed at home to tackle the Gympie show instead of both. Biggenden proved yet again to be a happy hunting ground for the stud as Midas Windlass E020 took the Junior Heifer section which is Interbreed and then went on to take the Supreme Exhibit under the Judging of Jon Mercer.
The Gympie Show was my second time there and this year the team went really well in the Gelbvieh section as well as the Interbreed sections. Midas E078 took Junior Champion with Midas E029 Reserve Junior Champion Bull and then Midas Windlass E019 took her class between 21-24 months and Midas Windlass E020 winning her class 18-21 months.
Midas Windlass E020 then was crowned Junior Champion Heifer. Midas Windlass D008 with calf at foot Windlass G005 took the Senior Champion Cow and then won the Grand Champion Gelbvieh Cow over Windlass E020. The next day the Interbreed Championships were conducted and Midas stood proud with Midas E078 taking 3rd in the Junior Bull and then Midas Windlass E020 taking the Supreme as Champion Interbreed Junior Heifer – Midas Windlass D008 stood 3rd in her class. In the Breeders Group, Midas missed first place by 1 point.
Brisbane Royal Show
Midas had another successful day at the EKKA with URDiamond Miss Fancy owned in conjunction with Glenn Perrett and Ken and Julie Thompson claimed the Reserve Junior heifer champion. Midas Francisco performed really well and was presented with the Junior Champion Bull award. Then it was Midas Windlass D008 turn taking out the Senior Champion Cow award. Midas then topped off the day with equal first in the most successful exhibitor.
