2011
show season started very slowly after all the
rain and it was difficult to present cattle at
their best soon after the floods however we
started our year at Proston and came away with
Junior Champion European bull with Midas E078
and then Junior Champion F emale with URDiamond
Fancy owned in conjunction with Glenn Perrett
and Ken and Julie Thompson. As we did not
have a senior bull it was up to the females to
do the job. Ebony Lodge Sheraton owned in
partnership with the same people took Senior and
Grand Champion European cow with Midas Opal E009
taking Reserve Senior Cow. Fancy took Reserve
Champion European Female behind her mother
Sheraton. In the Interbreed Sheraton took 3rd
with Fancy 4th.
The next show was Murgon and we came away with a
mixed result as judging followed a similar
pattern all day. We took 1st place in a number
of classes but did not succeed to any champions.
The Nanango Show was similar again as it was
difficult to break the dominance of a particular
breed however Midas Opal E009 stood out.
The next show was not until May and it was in
Biggenden where I had taken Supreme Exhibit the
last 2 years. As the Gympie Show was that week I
split the team and some stayed at home to tackle
the Gympie show instead of both. Biggenden
proved yet again to be a happy hunting ground
for the stud as Midas Windlass E020 took the
Junior Heifer section which is Interbreed and
then went on to take the Supreme Exhibit under
the Judging of Jon Mercer.
The
Gympie Show was my second time there and this
year the team went really well in the Gelbvieh
section as well as the Interbreed sections.
Midas E078 took Junior Champion with Midas E029
Reserve Junior Champion Bull and then Midas
Windlass E019 took her class between 21-24
months and Midas Windlass E020 winning her class
18-21 months.
Midas Windlass E020 then was crowned Junior
Champion Heifer. Midas Windlass D008 with calf
at foot Windlass G005 took the Senior Champion
Cow and then won the Grand Champion Gelbvieh Cow
over Windlass E020. The next day the Interbreed
Championships were conducted and Midas stood
proud with Midas E078 taking 3rd in the Junior
Bull and then Midas Windlass E020 taking the
Supreme as Champion Interbreed Junior Heifer –
Midas Windlass D008 stood 3rd in her class. In
the Breeders Group, Midas missed first place by
1 point.

Midas had another successful day at the EKKA
with URDiamond Miss Fancy owned in conjunction
with Glenn Perrett and Ken and Julie Thompson
claimed the Reserve Junior heifer champion.
Midas Francisco performed really well and was
presented with the Junior Champion Bull award.
Then it was Midas Windlass D008 turn taking out
the Senior Champion Cow award. Midas then topped
off the day with equal first in the most
successful exhibitor.

taking out the heifer 12-16 months class with
Midas Opal E009 and then the cow over 20 months
with Ebony Lodge Sheraton D11 purchased in
partnership with Julie Gould and Glenn Perrett
at last years National Sale.
Sheraton took the Grand champion cow with Opal
taking the Reserve Champion cow. Midas Electric
at 12 months and 680kg with EMA 112cm and fat
7/5 could claim only second place in the 12-16
months age group. Midas D-Bolt and Midas D19
took second and third respectively in the over
20 month class for Bulls. Midas capped the day
by being the most successful exhibitor.

A Gelbvieh Feature show was held at the Murgon

2009
2009 was an exceptional year for Midas Gelbvieh in the show ring. The year started with
Midas Collosus having his first outing since
being out with the cows last spring at Sydney
Royal. He took the Senior and Grand champion
Gelbvieh and culminated the show with being
awarded the INTERBREED CHAMPION Bull of Sydney
Royal 2009 adding to his success as Champion
Bull at the EKKA 2008.
Beef 2009 started a week later and Collosus
stood tall again and took Senior and Grand
Champion Gelbvieh bull. Midas had a very
successful show with taking the Calf Champion
Bull with Midas D-Bolt and Reserve Junior
Champion heifer with Midas Windlass C010.
A week later I took a team to the Biggenden Show
with great success. Midas Windlass C010
was awarded the Reserve Champion Cow and Midas
Cossack was awarded the Junior Champion Bull,
Grand Champion Bull and finally the Supreme
Exhibit of the Show.
In July Midas took 5 bulls to the Ag-Grow sale
at Emerald and were very successful with a 100%
clearance with all going to new customers in the
Gelbvieh breed. The next assignment was the EKKA
where Midas Collosus was defending his crown
from 2008. He did this with flying colours and
took out Senior and Grand Champion Gelbvieh
bull. Midas D-Bolt took out his 16-20 months
class as well.

The Gelbvieh National Sale was our next
assignment where Midas presented 4 females and 6
bull lots. We were very successful with all the
females selling and 3 out 6 of the bulls
selling. The highlights were Midas Collosus
selling for $13,000 for ¾ share and full
possession and Midas Cossack with second top
price of $8,000. It appears that poll bulls are
in demand and next years crop of bulls will all
be polled.
Midas Gelbvieh continued the success of 2009 by
taking out the jackpot at the Dubbo Junior
Heifer Show from approx 150 entries by Midas
Windlass D008 her first ever showing – she is a
full sister to our great champion bull Midas
Collosus C002 who is breeding very successfully
in the Midas herd.

2008
2008 saw Midas Gelbvieh exhibiting in the
local shows as well as shows in NSW with Midas Calista taking the championship at Glen Innes
and again Reserve Junior Champion at Sydney.
Midas Collossus faired well at Sydney winning
his class 12-15 months and then coming 3rd in
the interbreed at Warialda at 14 months of age. Midas Gelbvieh performed well again
taking out Champion bull with Midas Collossus
and Reserve champion cow with Midas Calista at
the EKKA.
This continued the success of the stud having
had Champion cow for 2006 and 2007 and Reserve
champion bull for 2006 and 2007.
2007
In 2007 Midas Brutus won the Champion Gelbvieh Bull at the Toowoomba
Royal Show and has just won the
Champion European Bull and Midas Miss Wind the Champion European
Cow at the Emerald show.
Since the success at Emerald, Midas Opal Z011
took out the champion cow at the EKKA with Midas
Brutus taking Reserve champion bull. After the
EKKA our next show was Wondai with Midas Miss
Wind taking the Supreme exhibit for the show the
second year running with Midas Calista taking
junior heifer champion and also 5th in the
interbreed at 6 months of age.
